Things to Do:
Tennessee Aquarium-
Kate spent a year working as a volunteer docent for the aquarium which mostly involved teaching small children how not to fall face-first into the touch tanks and pointing out the highly camouflaged snakes and turtles. Her favorite exhibits are the river otters and the alligator snapping turtles. If you go and visit, be sure to tell Kate your favorite exhibit!
Walnut Street Pedestrian Bridge -
Walk across after a visit to the Tennessee Aquarium and visit the shops on the Northshore.
Lookout Mountain Incline Railway-
Be sure to get Clumpie's Ice Cream afterward.
The Lost Sea -
The largest underground lake in America and an infamous Nana and Poppa field trip that all Stampers go through! As a kid, Kate went on a tour and the boat ride that takes you out on the lake. Nana had prepped Kate for how dark and cold it gets in the cave, but not for the flippant tour guide who said, "Now the catfish in the lake are blind, but if you fall in now, we can't save you!" A terrified Kate kept a white-knuckled grip on the boat that did not seem sturdy enough for the danger! She has never been back since, but all her cousins attest that "it was not that scary."
Hiking Trails-
Post-hike as Kate and Jack were getting in the car, Jack said, "Kate close the door. I think a skunk just sprayed over here." Kate shut the door and to everyone's horror the smell was not a skunk, but just Kate's sweaty post-hike smell. It took several minutes for both of them to recover from the laughter. They also found out after the three-mile hike that you can just drive to the overlook.
Another gorgeous overlook that is best enjoyed at sunset with a twelve-pack of tacos from Taco Bell.
For National Park Buffs-
Restaurant Recommendations:
Champy's Fried Chicken
We can't leave Tennessee without getting Champy's at least once! It was the first restaurant we went to after COVID restrictions were lifted. Jack gets the 3 piece white plate and Kate gets the fried catfish. We usually always get an order of tamales and key lime pie for the table as well.
Los Potros
Southern-style Tex-Mex is a type of cuisine all on its own. If you've had it before you know it is something special. We recommend The Potros Especial (Arroz con Pollo) or an order of fajitas. Be sure to get an order of cheese dip! The Stampers went to Potros so frequently that it was a separate line item in the family budget. When Kate and Elizabeth were in college, they stopped through Chattanooga and didn't tell Mom and Dad only to run into them at Los Potros.
Lupi's Pizza
Clumpie's Ice Cream
Kate and Jack were in Chattanooga and planned to meet up with Elizabeth at Clumpie's for ice cream. Elizabeth went to TWO wrong locations before Kate finally sent her a location pin.
